Port St. Lucie is a city in St. Lucie County, Florida, United States. The
population of Port St. Lucie was 88,769 at the United States 2000 Census.
According to the 2005 Census estimates, the city proper had an estimated
population of 131,692. [1] The Census Bureau announced in June 2005 that
Port St. Lucie was the fastest growing large city in the U.S. [citation
needed]. The Palm Beach Post reported that the city had passed a
population of 150,000 in early 2006.
The city is home to New York Mets spring training and the St. Lucie Mets
Florida State League team. Florida Atlantic University has its Treasure
Coast campus in the city.
Port St. Lucie has had the problem of being hit by three major hurricanes
within 2 years: Hurricane Frances, Hurricane Jeanne (which both hit the
city by the eye), and Hurricane Wilma.
As of 2005, Port St. Lucie's Metropolitan Area Population was 381,033.
The metropolitan area also includes the cities of Fort Pierce and Stuart.

of 198.6 km² (76.7 mi²). 195.6 km² (75.5 mi²) of it is land and 3.0
km² (1.1 mi²) of it (1.50%) is water.
